Leadership
Galway Hospice Foundation is a company limited by guarantee, governed by a voluntary Board of Directors whose members generously give their time, expertise and experience in support of our mission.
The Board provides strategic leadership and oversight, helping to ensure that Galway Hospice Foundation remains accountable, financially sustainable, legally compliant and focused on delivering the highest standards of specialist palliative care and support. Board members receive no payment for their service.
The Board is made up of individuals who reflect the diverse communities we serve and bring a wide range of expertise, including healthcare, nursing, medicine, finance, law, business, governance and lived experience. Together, they help ensure that the voices of patients, families, supporters and the wider community remain at the heart of decision-making.
The Chief Executive Officer reports directly to the Chairperson of the Board and attends Board meetings, providing regular updates on the organisation’s activities, performance and strategic priorities.
The Board meets at least eight times each year, in addition to the Annual General Meeting, and may convene additional meetings as required to support effective governance and timely decision-making.
To support its work, the Board is assisted by three specialist committees:
- Governance & Audit Committee – overseeing governance, risk management, financial stewardship and regulatory compliance.
- Quality & Patient Safety Committee – promoting excellence in care, quality improvement and patient safety across all services.
- Nominations & Remuneration Committee – supporting effective leadership, succession planning and Board development.
