Defence Forces provide vital transport services for Galway Hospice

The Defence Forces based at the nearby Renmore Barracks in Galway came to the aid of the Galway Hospice Home Care team today, when unprecedented snow and frosty conditions had made it extremely unsafe and difficult for our staff to reach patients in their homes in the worst-affected parts of County Galway.  Using 4×4 vehicles, the specially-trained Army drivers ensured that our staff could continue to provide care for our patients,  regardless of road conditions.  The Home Care team and Galway Hospice are extremely grateful to the members of the Defence Forces for their tremendous support.  In January of 2010, the Defence Forces also came to the aid of Galway Hospice when similar severe weather conditions hampered the provision of Home Care services.  The above photo was taken on 1st December 2010, and shows Home Care team members Breeda Feeney CNS (left) and Jane Fitzgerald CNS with four of the Army drivers.
