The Burke Family raise €2020 for Galway Hospice

Galway Hospice was recently presented with a cheque for €2020 by Marie Burke and her daughters Joan and Sarah, arising from their very successful participation in the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon 2011 in aid of Galway Hospice.

Pictured at the cheque presentation are (l-r): Marie Burke, Margaret Forde (Galway Hospice), Joan Burke, Sarah Burke and Karen Walsh (Galway Hospice).   Our sincere thanks to Marie, Joan and Sarah for taking on this challenge to benefit Galway Hospice.  Thanks also to everyone who supported the three ladies.  Well done to all concerned!

Galway Hospice depends so much on people like Marie, Joan and Sarah, who take on the most amazing challenges just to raise funds for Galway Hospice.  Today, we are caring for 136 patients in their own homes, patients who might otherwise have to be in hospitals or nursing homes.  The vast majority of these patients want to be cared for at home, if there is a choice available.  Hospice not alone provides that choice, but provides a comprehensive level of quality care in the home.  Hopefully, some day, the State will see fit to fund this service.  In the meantime, we rely on amazing people like Marie, Joan and Sarah to help with the funding of this service.
