Originally from Lower Canal Road in Galway City, Darren O’Toole has been living in Headford for the past 22 years after spending 10 years living in New Jersey and working in NYC. He started painting recently as a pastime, using acrylic paint as his chosen medium. He takes his inspiration and the love of art from his late father Albert, who is known for carving the bust of JFK which serves as a commemoration of the 35th US President’s visit to Galway on 29th June 1963.
Darren’s mother, Maree, passed away from cancer 3 years ago in the care of the staff at the Galway Hospice. All proceeds from the sales of his paintings will go to the hospice in her honour.
