Maggie and Helen conquer Kilimanjaro for Galway Hospice

Earlier this year, Maggie Ryan and Helen Sheehan presented the Galway Hospice Foundation with a cheque for €16,145.20 which they raised by climbing the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro!  (see earlier posting in March 2011).  Now that we have a photo of Helen and Maggie taken near the summit of Kilimanjaro, it’s only right to remind ourselves of their massive achievement!  Kilimanjaro is one of the few freestanding mountains in the world and rises to a summit of almost 20,000 ft.  Maggie and Helen underwent a rigorous training programme over a six-month period before taking on the challenge of this daunting climb. Their successful climb was not alone a personal triumph for them both, but also a very significant fundraising venture for Galway Hospice. “While this was a great personal challenge for both of us, we wanted to give something back to our local community. Both of us had experienced the good work done by the Galway Hospice so we chose this deserving charity to benefit from our climb. We are aware that the Galway Hospice Home Care and Day Care services rely totally on voluntary donations, and they provide an invaluable service. That is why we decided to undertake this challenge to benefit Galway Hospice”, said Maggie Ryan. They were delighted with the support they received, which resulted in a massive donation of €16,145.20 to Galway Hospice. Our sincere thanks to Maggie and Helen for undertaking this challenging climb in aid of Galway Hospice, and huge thanks to everyone who supported them in this event.
