Galway Hospice Community Meeting – next stop . . . . Gort!!!!

Galway Hospice has embarked on a major publicity drive, “Building for the Future”, to launch the next phase of its development.  In particular, Galway Hospice is appealing to families across the county that have availed of, or been affected by, Galway Hospice services over the years to support the hospice at this crucial time.

Representatives of Galway Hospice, led by Board Member and former county hurler Joe Connolly, have been travelling the length and breadth of County Galway since February.  The next of these community meetings takes place next Wednesday 20th March from 8pm to 9pm in the Lady Gregory Hotel, Gort.  The meetings will last for one hour between 8pm and 9pm.  Representatives from the hospice will speak about the current services being provided, and will outline plans for the future – both short term and long-term.  At each meeting, at least one local person or family will speak about their experience of hospice care and the vital support they received from Galway Hospice in their time of need.  A short DVD about the hospice will also be shown.  There will be opportunity for questions at the end of the meeting.

Galway Hospice has been providing services since 1990, but – due to ever-increasing demand – all services are currently operating beyond capacity.  More inpatient, home care and day care services are urgently needed.  These will require significant funding by Galway Hospice if they are to happen.  All hospice services are provided free-of-charge, for as long as they are needed.   At this time, the Hospice will be encouraging more people to join the Hospice Weekly Draw.  The Draw has been the backbone of hospice fundraising from the very beginning, and is more crucial now than ever.  Joining the Draw costs just €1.27 per week, with weekly prizes of €1,000 and €100.  The tremendous support from the people of Galway over the years has made Galway Hospice what it is today.  This continuing support is vital to Galway Hospice as they “build for the future”.
