Friday 21st June – Jurys Inn Galway takes on charity cycle challenge in aid of Galway Hospice

On Friday 21st June 2013, employees of the 32 Jurys Inn hotels across the UK, Ireland and Prague will be taking part in the group’s first charity cycle challenge, aiming to cover 2013 miles in one day!

Employees from each hotel will be cycling from their city centre hotel to another Jurys Inn, with the distance spanning anything from one mile to 130 miles!  The aim of the relay-style challenge is to raise £50,000 in sponsorship, which will be split between charity partner, De Paul, and local charities in UK, Ireland and Prague.

Elaine Mellotte (General Manager), Joe Quinn (Chief Operations Officer), Martin Diskin, Karen O’Brien and Clara Llorant of the Jurys Inn Galway hotel, based on Quay Street, will be cycling from Galway to Jurys Inn Custom House Dublin, a distance of 130 miles.  The Galway Jury’s Inn hotel will be raising money for local charity, Galway Hospice.

Grant Speed, Financial Controller of Jurys Inns, who headed up the initiative, said: “The Jurys Inn hotels are based in city centre locations across the UK, Ireland and Prague, so we thought it would be a great idea to challenge our teams to cycle from one city to another in a unique relay style competition. As 2013 marks the group’s 20-year anniversary, we’ve set ourselves the challenge of cycling 2013 miles”.

“Whilst we expect it to be a great team-building exercise, the main aim of the event is to give back to our local communities by supporting charities that each of our hotel teams feel strongly about.  We’ve all been training for the event and hope the day is a huge success.”
