The primary role of the Clerical Assistant will be to provide secretarial services to the Inpatient Unit (IPU) and Community Palliative Care team (CPC) to cover periods of leave. When not covering the IPU or CPC the Clerical Assistant will assist in managing and updating the database for staff training.
Applicants must have:
(i) Third level business/Administration or other relevant qualification.
(ii) Experience in healthcare environment desirable.
(iii) Two years experience as Ward Clerk / Medical Secretary
(iv) Excellent organisational, administrative, resource and time management skills; the ability to multitask combined with the ability to prioritise
(v) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong attention to detail
(vi) Strong IT Skills / computer literacy e.g. MS Word, Excel, Outlook
(vii) Understanding of the principles of Quality Management / Accreditation
(viii) A reliable, diligent and trustworthy character
(ix) Ability to treat all information confidentially and sensitively.

Based in Galway, the Head Chef will be a key member of the Management Team, responsible for managing the Hospice’s catering service to ensure the highest standards of quality and food safety in the provision of catering services to patients, staff and visitors.
Areas of Responsibility will include:
- Staff management, development and training.
- Actively engage and provide technical advice and guidance on food related matters.
- Preparing high quality meals which are appetising, nutritious and centred on patients preferences on-site in the hospice kitchen, taking into account any special dietary and allergen requirements.
- Managing and controlling the smooth transition from formulated food to food made from scratch,
- Ensuring a positive and supportive working environment for the team in the kitchen and beyond.
- Understanding and complying with all statutory and legal requirements, including Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP), Health & Safety, Manual Handling, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), Food Safety and Food Hygiene.
- A clear understanding of Infection Prevention and Control policies, procedures and measures to maintain a safe environment throughout the Hospice.
Applicants will have:
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in the direction and control of the catering arrangements within the Hospice, as relevant to this role.
- A Professional Cookery award at minimum Level 6 on National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) or equivalent maintained by the Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI).
- Five years’ experience as a Senior Chef, ideally in a Healthcare or similar setting.
- The ability to produce food to the highest quality standard, having consideration for special dietary requirements.
- Detailed knowledge and commitment to food hygiene and best practice, including HACCP.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with all team members including staff, volunteers, etc.
- Management experience to include staff rostering, team development, etc.
- Good time management skills including the ability to prioritise multiple tasks effectively.

The successful candidate will work as part of team supporting the systematic integration of Quality and Safety throughout the service. Candidates will have:
- An academic award in Risk Management or Quality at Level 8 (or higher) on the Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) framework or equivalent and/or a professional qualification in a health related area.
- Minimum of 3 years proven experience and working knowledge in Quality, ideally in a clinical / healthcare setting that has involved quality and risk management as relevant to this role.
- Experience of leading / influencing change in an organisation and a proven track record in driving Continuous Improvement programmes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills and experience of delivering training programmes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite. Experience with audit management/CAPA (Corrective Action/Preventative Action) management programs strongly preferred.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the capability to manage multiple priorities / projects with competing priorities/deadlines.
- Clean full driver’s licence as 25% travel between sites will be required.
- Experience of team management / development and ability to work equally well as part of a team or independently.
- A strong working knowledge of quality standards e.g. CHKS, JCI, ISO, HIQA and quality systems.
- In addition, candidates will be expected to be innovative, attentive to details and ability and willingness to work flexibly.
