Brian and Colm’s San Francisco to Galway Hospice door-to-door journey ….

Brian and Colm Grey 001 (Copy)Recently, Michael Craig, Fundraising Manager at Galway Hospice, had the pleasure of meeting two great supporters of Galway Hospice  – Brian and Colm Grey. Father and son, Brian and Colm had embarked on a journey that led them from San Francisco to Galway Hospice!

On 8th July 2014, Brian and Colm left their home just six miles outside San Francisco and arrived in Dublin airport on 9th July.  They were on a mission …. they had decided before leaving home in San Francisco that they would walk from the Grand Canal in Dublin to Renmore in Galway, in order to raise funds for Galway Hospice!  They began their walk on 11th July, starting at the Grand Canal and making their way to Shannon Harbour and from there into Banagher and on to Ballinasloe, followed by Athenry and, finally, arriving at Galway Hospice on the sunny afternoon of 22nd July.  Although foot-sore and weary, Brian and Colm had experienced a very special journey together, and delighted to have done it for Galway Hospice.

After meeting with staff at Galway Hospice and presenting the proceeds raised – a fantastic $1,344.31 and €298 – Brian and Colm embarked on the final leg of their journey, a short walk into Galway City to enjoy a well deserved break savouring the atmosphere and culture of our beautiful city. Sincere thanks to Brian and Colm for every step they walked to raise funds for Galway Hospice.  Thanks also to everyone who supported their fundraising endeavour, both here and in the United States.  Pictured are: (l-r) Colm Grey, Brian Grey and Michael Craig (Fundraising Manager, Galway Hospice).

Every year, Galway Hospice must raise €1.6 million to ensure the provision of essential hospice Home Care, Day Care and Bereavement Support services.  As Galway Hospice receives no State funding towards these services, fundraising efforts such as that undertaken by Brian and Colm are extremely important to Galway Hospice.  All the support we receive is greatly appreciated.
