“1935 Greystones Golf Club’s President’s Prize” trophy benefits Galway Hospice

Over the years, Galway Hospice has received many donations, large and small, through legacies (Wills).   Donations through Wills are a very important element of our income each year, for which we are very grateful.  Sometimes, people leave unusual gifts to the Hospice in their Will.  A recent gift that was left to Galway Hospice through a Will included a number of pieces of silverware.   Normally, we would sell such items and lodge the proceeds to our fundraising accounts.  However, there was one item that caught our attention – a beautifully crafted trophy engraved “1935 Greystones Golf Club’s President’s Prize”.

So we decided to contact the Greystones Golf Club to see if the trophy was of interest to them, and it certainly proved to be, so much so that they quickly arranged to purchase the trophy from Galway Hospice.   A significant private donation was then made by Greystones Golf Club for the benefit of Galway Hospice.  

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow stated: “Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think”.  The gift of the 1935 Greystones Golf Club’s President’s Prize trophy and its positive impact on both the Galway Hospice Foundation and Greystones Golf Club demonstrates the truth of Longfellow’s words.
