Aromatherapy in Hospice Care

Sometimes, the smallest moments of care can make the biggest difference.

At Galway and Mayo Hospices, caring for someone means looking after the whole person, not just their physical needs, but their emotional, psychological and spiritual wellbeing too.

Aromatherapy is one of the complementary therapies we offer as part of our holistic approach to palliative care. Working alongside our medical, nursing and multidisciplinary teams, it provides patients and their families with opportunities for relaxation, comfort and reassurance during challenging times.

In our latest video, members of our team, alongside people who have experienced our care, share what aromatherapy means to them and the difference it can make.

From gentle touch and carefully selected scents to simply having a peaceful space to relax, each treatment is tailored to the individual, respecting their needs, preferences and choices.

Aromatherapy can also support family members and carers, offering moments of calm and helping them connect with their loved ones through simple, gentle touch techniques.

As Ann Marie McGrath, Galway Hospice Aromatherapist, shares in the video:

“It’s a real privilege to be able to provide aromatherapy and to be present with people and bring comfort and serenity and ease into their lives.”

Watch our video below to hear these personal experiences and discover how aromatherapy brings comfort, care and calm to patients and families at Galway and Mayo Hospices.

At Galway and Mayo Hospices, every moment of comfort, connection and care matters.
