Galway Hospice Virtual Tree of Lights Celebration 2021

The Galway Hospice Tree of Lights Celebration at the Galway Memorial Tree took place on Sunday 5th of December 2021 with master of ceremonies, Tom Gilmore kicking the night off.

Each light on the Galway Memorial Tree represents a tribute to a loved one. The decision was made to hold the event virtually again this year in order to protect the health and safety of our patients, staff, volunteers and general public. Individuals were welcomed to join online, in the comfort of their own homes to watch the switching on of the magical Christmas Tree lights. The ceremony can still be watched on YouTube – Virtual Tree of Lights Celebration 2021 – YouTube.

Emma Donohue, winner of TG4’s Glór Tíre got everyone going with her rendition of Dolly Parton’s ‘Coat of many Colours’ and ‘Home to Donegal’. Rachel Goode performed Galway Bay and a stunning version of Danny Boy as Galway Hospice staff placed candles at the base of the Tree. Kiltullagh Community Choir provided festive music throughout the night.

The lights on the Galway Memorial Tree were then officially switched on by special guest Dáithí Ó Sé. Dáithí makes an appearance every year at this special event and as he says “I’ve never left the Galway Hospice without a smile on my face”.

Sincere thanks to Phil Grealish and St Columba’s Credit Union Mervue for their contribution to the Virtual Tree of Lights Celebration, and to the special guests and musicians for their support of Galway Hospice.
