300km Cycle & Fundraiser raises total of €25,795.61 for Galway Hospice and Tuam Cancer Care

Sheridan’s Bar in Milltown was the venue for a recent cheque presentation, where a total of €25,795.61 was presented to representatives of Galway Hospice and Tuam Cancer Care.   The presentation followed a 300km cycle and fundraiser in memory of Tom Kehoe, Milltown and formally of Our Lady’s Island, Wexford.

On Saturday 5th May 2012, 43 cyclists left Our Lady’s Island community centre in Wexford and cycled through Oilgate, Bunclody, Carlow and Portlaoise before finally arriving in Tullamore at 7pm on Saturday evening.  On Sunday morning at 9.30am the cyclists set off again, westward bound going through Athlone, Ballyforan, Moylough and Tuam before finally arriving to a large homecoming in Milltown and then onto the final destination at The McWilliam Park Hotel in Claremorris where a fundraiser was taking place.

Tom’s close friends and family organised this event in his memory and to raise money for the organisations that gave so much to him during his illness.

Tom’s family and friends would like to extend a massive “thank you” to everyone for their encouragement and support, and for making this an occasion that will live on in their memories for years to come.

Galway Hospice would like to sincerely thank Tom’s family for all the hard work and dedication they put into organising this event, and for choosing Galway Hospice to be a joint beneficiary with Tuam Cancer Care.  Events like this are so important to Galway Hospice in terms of our continuing fundraising needs.  Galway Hospice provides services 7 days per week, 365 days per year.  We do not receive any State support towards our Home Care and Day Care services, and we currently have to supplement HSE funding to the tune of approx €200,000 per annum to maintain existing inpatient services.  We appreciate so much the enthusiasm and loyalty of families like the Kehoes, who put such time and effort into raising funds for Galway Hospice.

Also thanks to the local Foroige Club for their kind and generous contribution towards the event.

Pictured presenting the cheque to John G Davin, Gerry Fahy and Patrick Baird (Tuam Cancer Care) and to Mary Tierney (Galway Hopsice) are Tom’s wife and son Orla & Adam Kehoe along with the cyclists, volunteers and sponsors.

Also pictured are members of the Foroige Club with their contribution.

Thanks to all concerned!
