‘Our Corrib Walks’ Book

15.00

‘Our Corrib Walks’ by Patrick McGinley and Denis Healy describes 12 great walks on the edge of Lough Corrib. It tells you where you can park, who the walk is suitable for, how long the walk is – and whether it involves any climbing. There are 102 pages including about 80 full colour photographs. Eight of the walks are suitable for families with buggies, and five of these are suitable for someone who uses a wheelchair.

Some of the walks are quite well known like Knockma Hill near Tuam or the Scenic Road near Oughterard. Some are less well known like the Ard na Gaoithe Woods near Cong or the Collinamuck to Knockferry walk near Moycullen. Yet others are just ‘hiding in plain sight’ like Nimmo’s Pier to the University of Galway or the wonderful walk from Clonbur to Inishdoorus.

Patrick and Denis give vivid descriptions of the scenery they enjoyed when they did these walks mainly in the Summer of 2023 and they describe some of the people they met along the way from whom they got a lot of helpful local information – sometimes about features of the walk but more often about the history and heritage of the area. They devote the final chapter of ‘Our Corrib Walks’ to sharing some insights into a few aspects of the cultural heritage of the Corrib – just glimpses – but perhaps enough to awaken a wider interest in the subject and in the work of organisations like Corrib Beo.

‘Our Corrib Walks’ costs €15 and is in aid of Galway Hospice.
