St Joseph’s (Garbally) College students support Galway Hospice

Class 384 of St Joseph’s College, Garbally, Ballinasloe  recently held a Soccer Blitz event to raise money for Galway Hospice.  The event raised a sizeable €360 which was presented to Margaret O’Healy (representing Galway Hospice) by students Niall Curley (left) and Graeme Gullane (right).

As part of their academic programme, the class based a C.S.P.E. Junior Cert class project on Galway Hospice, entitled ‘Dying with Dignity’ .  In the course of their research for this project, the class visited Galway Hospice to meet with hospice staff and learn at first hand what hospice is all about.

They also published an article on Galway Hospice in the Garbally College School Magazine so as to raise awareness of Galway Hospice services and facilities. This article was written by Thomas Cahill (class 384 student).

Galway Hospice would like to thank the students of Class 384, and everyone who supported this project and the related fundraising event in support of Galway Hospice.  Special thanks to the teachers of Class 384, notably Mr Fitzgerald, for their important role in supervising the project and enabling the students to gain a real-life experience as part of their academic programme.

The monies raised by the students will help Galway Hospice to continue providing Home Care and Day Care services to patients and families throughout Galway city and county.
